Case Study - Coping with Change

Finding a process to identify the Gap!
All of this led Chris to decide that she wanted to grow her confidence and ability to interact with a wider range of people so that she could gain the benefit from each new situation she was in and feel more relaxed and better able to manage herself. So Chris decided to try the Better Life Toolkit Questionnaires which proved to be a very effective tool in helping her understand what she needed to do.

What were her key learning points?
  • Her self-perception feedback showed a Green style preference that indicated she liked to keep her social chat to a minimum, to be more formal and structured and tended to avoid close physical contact. She also discovered that people with a more 'green' orientation tended to find it more difficult than the other 'colours' when meeting new people.
  • From the analysis she gained a good understanding of the colour orientations that were different from hers so that she felt more informed on what their likes and dislikes were.
  • This then led her to identify some strategies on what she could do differently when interacting with someone that had a different orientation.
  • She learned that there were no rights or wrongs in the feedback because it is relative to how she and others perceive their own worlds, and those they relate to in each situation they encounter.
  • She also learned that through being better informed she could sense if others were more or less Task and more or less Relationship oriented than she was and therefore could modify her behaviour for each person in a way that met their needs more effectively. This helped her to appreciate the similarities and differences to make the most of each interaction she had.
