Case Study - Finding a New Job

Finding a process to identify the Gap!
All of this led Andy to decide that he needed to obtain clarity on what his current learning style looked like and from this determine the strategies he could take that would help him grow his confidence and better manage his responses when faced with new experiences like interviews or assessment centres.

What were his key learning points?
  • His self-perception feedback indicated that he had a step-by-step learning style preference. Structure and Analysis were two key themes associated with his approach.
  • From the analysis he identified some strategies on what he could do to manage his responses when in a new situation. Through understanding that his preference was to take time to think carefully before answering and to collect relevant data in a logical and disciplined way, he was aware that this approach was helpful in certain situations, however he was also able to learn what to do differently to be able to move into either a more 'go with the flow', or 'get on with it' or 'try it and see' approach.
  • He learned that there were no rights or wrongs in the feedback because it is relative to how he and others perceive their own worlds, and those they relate to in each situation they encounter.
  • He also learned more about the other learning styles that helped him to appreciate where his preference fitted. He could make sense of how to combine the different learning strengths in a way that demonstrated his awareness of this being a critical factor in getting the most positive responses from an individual and value adding immediately to any Organisation. A very much sought after skill to have.
