Skycity Leadership Trainees: Building Self-Awareness and Self-Management

"As a result of the profiling my own self awareness has increased out of sight. I have gained an understanding of how I operate during different stages of feelings and insights into the way I work and interact with people during states of feeling less than positive. This has helped me actively develop strategies to help improve my performance in those situations and will assist me with forming a great high performing team. The profiling has also assisted me in identifying these traits in other people and is assisting me to develop into a successful leader within the organisation."
Matt Harvey - Skycity Trainee 2005

The main benefits of the Centell Profiling that I have gained are:
...the profiling has clarified my key strengths in my dominant colours (yellow) and provides me with the knowledge of when to draw upon these in certain situations and most importantly when to recognise the dominant and weaker colours in others and what approach I should adopt,
...which plays a very important role when communicating and dealing with people at work and even in my personal life...in order to gain the most effective outcome possible.
Not only has the profiling and re-profiling developed my 'self-awareness' further over the past year and also helped me understand my own style and strengths, but it has most importantly uncovered my development opportunities that are key to my future success in my career.
Understanding my development opportunities and developing strategies to conquer them has been a great learning process and step forward for me in my career development. Capturing the growth opportunities and flashbacks that have stretched me over the past year is another benefit / outcome of the profiling that I need to continue to strive to re-invent those opportunities to develop myself further.
Other benefits from the profiling is the confirmation I gained to continue to build on my natural assets and values...'building rapport and providing a colloborative approach to problem solving'. The profiling established this as one of my natural assets and provided me with the knowledge to continue to nurture them and do them well whilst having an awareness of my development areas.
Frank Hunter - Skycity Trainee 2005

"Centell profiling has opened the door to self-awareness, by providing both a fundamental framework for evaluating myself, and workshops to create practical action plans to take advantage of strengths and develop weaknesses.

My Centell profile is the best professional development tool I have, everything hinges off the analysis that it enables. I find the profile easy to comprehend, and it promotes profound self-evaluation, which leaves areas for improvement glaringly obvious.

Centell provided professional, personally tailored, well prepared facilitation coupled with genuine follow up and a commitment to meeting the demands of clients."
Carl Bevins - Skycity Trainee 2005

YWCA Future Leaders Programme 2nd Annual Leadership Forum June 11th 2005, AUT Campus

Excerpt from the Report: Adele Lendich, Director (Future Leaders Programme)

The first workshop for the day followed Sandra's presentation and was delivered by Alyson Jaap from Centell - Centre for Enabling Leadership. The workshop lasted for two hours.

This workshop was rated as a highlight of the Forum for most participants.

The workshop introduced the concept of Life Colours and how they can play an important part in helping you see how you impact on others and how this either optimises or minimises your talent.

Life Colours is a practical method of looking at your character and the behaviour that you use when interacting with colleagues and friends.

Life colours can be a powerful tool in helping you to recognise the opportunities by helping to gain an understanding of the strengths you are currently using.

Alyson highlighted the importance of each person being made up differently and that the major goal was of improving our own self-awareness and getting the most of our own feedback.

This workshop was interactive with all participants being involved (mentors and students). It was colourful, fun, exciting, moved at a fast pace and was thoroughly enjoyable.

Each person took away worksheets detailing their own individual makeup.

    Relationships Matter Workshops

Your approach is practical and integrated using a variety of techniques, in particular, pre- & post-course questionnaires to test actual perceptions of others in relation to oneself, providing a conceptual framework with which to operate and review one's own behaviour, and theoretical and anecdotal evidence to support analysis of others' behaviours, with sound coaching advice. Overall, very enlightening, professional and useful.

Working on problems with people with different styles opened my eyes to lots of possibilities. It would be good for everyone in our organisation to experience working with people with other styles. Really good value, enjoyed it.

Made me question the 'thinking box' I assumed I was in, has given me confidence to use some other ways of thinking which I had been uneasy about using.

Giving people a better understanding of how you are driven, how others might be driven and how both can work more effectively together.

The knowledge - awakening of my own abilities to be able to handle the situations that I feel most uncomfortable in, a valuable tool in the ever-changing world we work in.

I am now able to compare my past working experiences to what I can/will do positively from now and in the future. Very thought provoking have been drawn out of my comfort zone.

Helped me understand how we are perceived by other people. Difficult people don't always know they are difficult.

Well organised workshops. Good to see the potential we have - can now have a vision to achieve.

Positive, simple ways to make change.

Helps and encourages people to help themselves. Good examples of things I could relate well to and see in my life.
